CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A high speed chase on Interstate 24 has police searching for a Missouri man on the run in Clarksville.
The incident began in Lee’s Summit, MO when a white BMW with North Dakota tags was stolen from a rest stop.
The car had several kittens inside at the time it was stolen.
Law enforcement pursued the vehicle through Illinois and Kentucky. According to WKRN, investigators at one point clocked the car at 132 MPH. Spike strips were used to slow the car down.
The car finally came to a stop at Exit 1, where the suspect vacated the vehicle and ran away on foot. Police suspect James A. Pitts to be the driver of the vehicle. Pitts has grey hair, 5’7″, and is wearing a light-colored shirt. He was last seen running west.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for the suspect.
Animal control was notified about the kittens and they are now caring for the animals.
Residents near the Exit 1 area should be vigilant. If you see any suspicious activity in your area and call 911.
Clarksville Police also encourage residents to ensure vehicles are locked and keys removed.
