CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville woman has been charged with child abuse and neglect for a second time after her two young children were found wandering in the street.
According to an arrest warrant, an individual called police after finding the 4-year-old and 2-year-old at the intersection of Gracelawn Dr. and Angel Ct. Sept. 30. The children had wandered approximately a half mile from their home.
The Department of Children’s Services arrived at the scene and identified the children’s mother as 24-year-old Kayla Mason. Police went to Mason’s residence and knocked several times but got no answer. The officer then went to the side of the house and found an open door leading to a bedroom where Mason was sleeping.
Mason told police she did not know where her children were and did not hear them leave.
She was charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect, as well as violation of COR. Her bond was set at $400,000.
She was previously charged with two counts of child abuse and neglect on March 25 when her children were found alone in a bar parking lot after wandering away from their home.
