CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Over the course of 30 years, a Clarksville mom and her now-adult son have created a Christmas village inspired by elements from the 1966 holiday classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”
Cindy Thorington started this tradition back in 1987 with her son, Nicholas, and it has now been passed on to Nicholas’ teenage son.
Cindy’s late brother-in-law used to have his own small-scale Christmas village, and since his passing, it has grown tremendously. The display consists of about 80 buildings.
The whole family has contributed small pieces to bring this village to life.
“My niece, they bring something over every year to put in it too,” Cindy said.
The collection has become more refined over the years as the space was once occupied by three more 6-foot tables than there are now. However, the display still takes about a week to put together.
The Thorington family plans to keep the tradition going, as it has become more of a passion than a task.
“It’s so much fun,” said Cindy. “It’s time-consuming, but it’s so much fun.”
