CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – On Monday night, the County Commission approved a resolution to apply for grant funding that would go toward dozens of full-time positions within the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department.

If the county were to receive the grant, they would be able to hire 36 full-time operational positions for the volunteer fire department, in addition to their existing county fire volunteers. A total of around $7.5 million would be given to the county for a period of 36 months to account for salaries and benefits for the 36 employees, according to county documents.

With the resolution now approved, the county expects to receive notification by the end of the July whether they received the grant. The same can be said about another resolution that was approved last night as well.

The County Commission was also asked to approve a resolution to apply for grant funding that would go toward a purchase of boat and other equipment for the volunteer fire department. Along with other items on the consent agenda, the resolution was approved unanimously.
