CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Montgomery County Veterans Coalition held its monthly meeting on Nov. 16 at the Montgomery County Veterans Plaza downtown Clarksville.

The coalition has received 501c3 non-profit status and is now able to accept donations.

Plans are already in the making for a three-day “Welcome Home celebration” event for POW/MIA day 2017. Mr. Bill Robinson, the longest held enlisted POW in American history, will be the keynote speaker.

Coalition members Sherry Pickering and Catherine Fearn were invited to be on a conference call with Secretary Julian Castro concerning the “Mayor’s Challenge to End Veterans Homelessness.” The “Veterans Day on the Hill” event has been scheduled for February 8, 2017.

Guest Speaker for the month was Jennifer Bean, VA Clinical Pharmacy Specialist. Bean is a member of the VA Interdisciplinary Care Team, which makes clinical decisions that positively impact patient care. She briefed the organizations on the concerns of opioid and benzodiazepine use and recent scientific findings.
