CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – It’s going to be a big year for elections in 2020, with the first voters heading to the polls Tuesday, March 3 for the Presidential Preference and Montgomery County Primary.

Monday, February 3 was the last day to get registered to vote in Montgomery County and Administrator of Elections, Elizabeth Black, said between January 29 and the deadline, there were 1,102 new registrations which brings the total registered voters in the county to 116,500.

Tennessee is an open primary state which means registered voters must declare their political party preference in order to vote in a primary. In order to vote March 3, you must choose which Party Primary, Republican or Democratic, you wish to vote in.

Early voting for registered voters for the March 3 Presidential Preference and Montgomery County Primary will be February 12-25 at the Montgomery County Election Commission Office in Veterans Plaza.

Local races in the Montgomery County Primary for March 3 include Circuit Court Judge-Part V, candidate Katy Olita and Assessor of Property, Erinne Hester, along with Highway Supervisor.

Candidates on the ballot for Montgomery County Highway Supervisor March 3 include Republicans Jeff Bryant and Kevin Griffy. Independent candidates for the office of Highway Supervisor, Stayton Black Jr. and Bryan Knight will only appear on the August 6, 2020 ballot.
