CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Quick thinking and decisive action saved the life of a citizen and earned a Montgomery County officer, Sergeant Shanna Grice, recognition by the State of Tennessee.
Sergeant Grice received the First Responder Award during a ceremony held at the Governor’s Executive Residence in Nashville on September 11.
Grice received the award for her quick action during a call. At that time a suspect attempted to ingest a bag of fentanyl. Grice removed the bag from the suspect’s mouth and administered first aid. She risked exposure to the deadly drug herself.
The Sheriff’s Office estimates there was enough fentanyl inside the bag to kill hundreds of people, Grice was not injured. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital.
Grice remains humble and grateful for the opportunity to serve the Montgomery County community. “It’s an honor to be recognized by Governor Lee and the State of Tennessee,” said Sergeant Grice. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve our great county and state every day.”
