CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The U.S. Census Bureau has released its first set of data from the 2020 Census, and it shows that Clarksville has grown by leaps and bounds since 2010.

According to the new census data, Montgomery County has grown by 47,738 people to a total of 220,069. That’s a 27.7% increase over the past 10 years.

Clarksville by itself has grown by 33,793 people to a total of 166,722, a 25.4% change over the last 10 years.

That level of growth should not come as a surprise to residents. Clarksville has been included in several independent rankings based on economic development and population growth.

In a recent visit to the Clarksville Kiwanis Club, Economic Development Council CEO and President Buck Dellinger said Montgomery County is prime to continue its growth trend.

“Ten years ago, international companies were coming to Tennessee because of incentives. Five years ago, they came for workforce development. Now, people are coming to Middle Tennessee because of the quality of life,” Dellinger said.

Addressing the growth

In order to address this rapid population growth, Clarksville and Montgomery County have made several pushes to expand infrastructure. Clarksville recently adopted an ambitious, new Transportation Plan to address increases in traffic, while the Montgomery County Commission has approved a new 10-Year Master Plan for parks and recreation.

Projects like the F&M Bank Arena and the Clarksville Performing Arts Center have been planned to bring more entertainment options to downtown Clarksville.

In terms of economic growth, Montgomery County has recruited several new employers in recent years, including Hankook Tire, LG, Microvast and Troy Firearms.

Two new projects involving yet-to-be-named companies seeking to purchase land in the Corporate Business Park promise to bring hundreds of new jobs and millions of dollars in investments to the area.
