CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Montgomery County Courthouse was filled Wednesday, August 27 with both incumbent and newly elected County officials as well as family, friends and supporters for a Swearing –In Ceremony. Those taking the oath of office had won their respective races in the August 7 Montgomery County General Election.

Retired Judge John Peay presided over the swearing in and first, Jim Durrett was called to the podium to be sworn in as the new Montgomery County Mayor. Durrett was followed by Sheriff John Fuson who won reelection this year.

Other officials sworn in were 19th Judicial District Attorney General John Carney, County Clerk Kellie Jackson, Assessor of Property Erinne Hester, Register of Deeds Connie Gunnet and Trustee Brenda Radford. Then all of the newly elected and returning Montgomery County Commissioners took their oath of office.

Finally, four members of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board which included three returning members and one new member raised their right hand and repeated their oath of office. All of the candidates sworn in Wednesday will serve four year terms with the exception of District Attorney General which is an eight year term.

County Mayor Jim Durrett congratulated all of the elected County officials and said, “To you commissioners, I look forward to working with you for the next four years. I think it’s going to be exciting and I know it’s going to be a challenge for me and I’m definitely going to rely on each and every one of you to guide me through this process,” said Durrett.

Voters in Montgomery County will once again return to the polls November 4 for the Tennessee State General and City of Clarksville Election. Races on the ballot will include Governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Tennessee State House of Representatives, City Mayor, and six City Council seats.
