CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Montgomery County lawyer received Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court on Thursday, Oct. 24, for multiple professional conduct violations.
According to a news release, Kevin William Teets Jr. was hired by two clients to represent them in seeking damages from an apartment fire. The clients then paid Teets a retainer from which he then deducted from the filing fee. However, the lawsuit was never filed, the release said.
The same clients hired Teets to defend them in a detainer matter relating to a different apartment, but the lawyer failed to attend multiple court settings, and a default judgment and a judgment for damages was entered against the clients, the release said. Teets then failed to respond to numerous requests for information from said clients, but eventually refunded them the original filing fee.
“By these acts, Kevin William Teets Jr. has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.3 (diligence), 1.4 (communication), 1.5 (fees), 1.15 (safekeeping funds), 1.16 (termination of representation), 3.2 (expediting litigation), 3.4 (fairness to opposing party), and 8.4 (prejudice to the administration of justice) and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations,” said the news release.
