CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Montgomery County Health Council will host Cancer Queens! A Cancer Prevention Musical Revue during their Partners For Pink event Friday, August 9, 5:30 p.m., at the Montgomery County Veterans’ Plaza Civic Center.
Partners For Pink is being described as “a celebration to create awareness on the availability of screening mammograms for uninsured women in Clarksville-Montgomery County,” which are made available through a $60,000 Susan G. Komen Greater Nashville grant, the Montgomery County Health Department, Austin Peay State University and Premier Medical Group. Proceeds from the event will go to the Clarksville YMCA After Breast Cancer (ABC) program for wigs, prostheses and other mastectomy supplies provided to under-served women.
The Nashville based Cancer Queens are Robin Baggett, Mattie Bates, Shelia Bates, Nancy Brown, Cindy Chafin, Kathy Childress, Cathy Goss, Jane Kennedy, Tonya Micah, Jennifer Murray, and Trudy Stein-Hart. The group promotes breast health, physical activity, nutrition, sun safety, quitting smoking and cervical cancer prevention and screening with the parodies of popular songs they perform for audiences throughout Tennessee. The women are both professional health educators and cancer survivors who have been recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Admission for the event will be $10 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the YMCA or the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center located at 230 Dover Road.
