CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County Tennessee (HFHMCTN) and longtime national partner Lowe’s are hosting “how to” construction clinics for women volunteering during the Women Build 2016 project. Taking place each year, the national Habitat for Humanity Women Build program encourages women across the country to devote at least one day to building simple, decent and affordable housing with Habitat in their local communities.

“We are looking forward to building a new home during our Women Build in 2016 and the opportunity to engage more women in our work,” said Shelby Logsdon, executive director of HFHMCTN. “We invite women of all skill levels to join us on the build site and take the clinics hosted by Lowe’s in preparation for building that house.”

Local clinics are starting this May and will be held at Lowe’s of Clarksville, TN at 2150 Lowes Drive off Wilma Rudolph Drive. The first clinic will feature about 10 stations to learn how to safely use power tools. It will take place from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 31.

To sign up for the clinic, visit the HFHMCTN Facebook page.

The first 100 women who register for the workshop will receive a free hot dog, chips and soda. There will be a sign-up sheet where women can register to be a volunteer on the build in 2016. T-shirts will be available to purchase for $25 and the proceeds will go directly to the Women Build 2016 home. For more information, contact the Women’s Build 2016 chairwoman, Kayla Mihalinec, also a board member with HFHMCTN, at kaylamihalinec@gmail.com.

Lowe’s helped launch National Women Build Week in 2008, and each year provides the support of Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers and conducts how-to clinics at stores to teach volunteers construction skills. This year, Lowe’s contributed nearly $2 million to National Women Build Week. Since its partnership began in 2003, Lowe’s has committed more than $63 million to Habitat and helped nearly 4,000 families improve their living conditions.

Since 1992, HFHMCTN has partnered with over 88 qualified applicants who invest sweat equity into building simple, decent and affordable housing to achieve homeownership through a twenty-year, zero-interest mortgage. Habitat collaborates with faith, civic, and business organizations who envision neighborhood revitalization through new home construction. Program applications are accepted daily.
