Contributed Memorial Day commentary from the Montgomery County Republican Party – Doug Englen, chair, and Olivia Lupia, vice chair:
As we approach Memorial Day, the Montgomery County Republican Party (MCGOP) would like to join our community in pride and admiration for the men and women of our armed forces who sacrificed themselves to preserve and protect the values and unalienable rights upon which this blessed nation is built. Their legacies will not be soon forgotten.
To the families of the fallen, please know that we stand with you, support you, and thank you for the sacrifice you have also made for your country. Mere words of thanks seem inadequate, but we offer them wholeheartedly and gratefully. We stand in prayer with and for you.
To the veterans that remain with us, in whatever conflict or capacity you have served, thank you for your service. We stand with you in mourning and remembrance for your fallen brothers and sisters and we value your continued devotion to the land we love.
The MCGOP would like to thank some elected officials serving our community who have also proudly served our country through military service: Congressman Mark Green (Army), state Rep. Curtis Johnson (Navy), state Rep. Jay Reedy (Army), and the many veteran City Council members and county commissioners. We would also like to thank state Sen. Bill Powers for his commitment to veterans and their families through his work in the legislature as the chairman of the Veterans Committee.
As we enjoy this Memorial Day, we take the time to pray, reflect and remember those gallant men and women who have made us proud to call ourselves American. Thank you.
