CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Democratic Party held a public mixer Saturday at the North Branch Library, giving residents an opportunity to meet local candidates and learn more about upcoming races.
Attendees were able to speak directly with individuals running for offices as well as candidates seeking re-election and first-time candidates preparing to qualify for the ballot.

Mary Richards, third vice chair for political affairs for the Montgomery County Democratic Party, said the mixer was scheduled during the qualifying period so candidates could begin the process of getting on the ballot for county races. “We wanted to make sure that everybody has a chance to get signatures for their petitions, so they can qualify to be on the ballot, and have an initial place to start making some connections with their constituents,” Richards said.
The qualifying period for county-level offices runs through Feb. 19, for anyone interested in running for office. Richards said the party plans to continue hosting similar events in the future. The Montgomery County Democratic Party said more Democratic candidates are planning to run this year than in recent years.
