CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Budget Committee has sent forward a resolution that would allow the county to purchase land to build another, unnamed CMCSS elementary school.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools spokesperson Anthony Johnson told Clarksville Now the request was made because the system currently has over 39,400 students enrolled, with over 600 more students than last school year.

Johnson said that “CMCSS appreciates the support of the Montgomery County Commission and the work of the Ad Hoc Joint Land Acquisition Committee to address school capacities.”

CMCSS has 26 elementary schools. Of those, 10 are in Region 2, which is where the new school would be located.

Those 10 schools are Barkers Mill, Byrns Darden, Glenellen, Hazelwood, Kenwood, Northeast, Oakland, Pisgah, Ringgold and West Creek.

With the Budget Committee’s approval, the resolution goes to the County Commission, with the next informal meeting taking place on Sept. 5.

If approved by the commission next month, CMCSS will move forward with land acquisition process once Kirkwood Elementary School opens, which is anticipated for August 2024.

Correction: Sept. 4 is on Labor Day, so the informal meeting will be held on Sept. 5.
