CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – As progress on the new Montgomery County Animal Care and Control shelter nears completion, the MCACC has been notified that they have received an anonymous gift of $300,000.
At Monday’s meeting, the Montgomery County Commission discussed a new resolution that would accept the donation for restricted use by the MCACC.
“This is a massive donation to our Animal Control,” County Commissioner David Harper said. “For someone to submit this $300,000 is an amazing gift. I know it will be well used, and I’m very thankful for that.”
Harper asked if there were any additional restrictions to the donation, outside of the donor remaining anonymous. Mayor Wes Golden said that the full $300,000 must be used exclusively by MCACC.
Under Tennessee Code Annotated § 5‑8‑101, “restricted use” donations like this can’t be funneled into the general fund; instead, the county must appropriate and spend them according to the donor’s terms. The County Commission will vote to confirm acceptance of the donation at their next regular session meeting on July 14.
Clarksville Now has reached out to MCACC Director Dave Kaske for comment.
The new MCACC facility on Jordan Road is expected to open around mid-September, according to Montgomery County spokesperson Michelle Hueffmeier.
