CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Montgomery County Angel Fund is asking for donations for a dog who was severely injured in Clarksville-Montgomery County.
When Franky was first found, Montgomery County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) believed he was hit by a car. However, when officers arrived and inspected the dog, they determined his injuries were likely caused by abuse.
Franky had extensive injuries on his head and neck, many of which had become infested with maggots. Officers transported him to Sango Veterinary Clinic for care.
“We are confident that Franky’s wounds were a result of him being a bait dog,” MCACC said in a post.
MCACC said a bait dog is considered a ‘punching bag’ for dogs being trained to fight or to test the aggression of other dogs.
“Bait dogs normally do not fight back and are tied to a fence or tree to prevent them from running off,” MCACC said. “In most instances a bait dog is mauled or killed in the process. Somehow Franky survived his ordeal suffering blood loss, infection, and severe wounds to his head and neck.”
Dr. Whitbeck and her team at Sango Veterinary Clinic are helping Franky make a full recovery. Once he is ready to leave the vet, he will need a special home as he continues ongoing care and recovery.
“He has already shown a very strong will to survive and the need to be loved,” MCACC said.
