CLARKSVILLE, TN − Fifth graders Carter, Octavio, Daniel and Owen from Kirkwood Elementary in Montgomery County will be competing in the Junior Solar Sprint competition, a STEM competition to build the most creative and fastest solar-powered car, during the annual National Technology Student Association (TSA) conference.

Students will race their cars with other middle schoolers from across the nation in Nashville from June 27-July 1.

The competition, administered by TSA in partnership with the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP), is a free educational program that gives students a chance to use hands-on engineering skills, apply principles of science and math, and develop teamwork and problem-solving abilities. Carter, Octavio, Daniel, and Owen’s cars won against others during regional competitions, and they’re now on their way to Nashville with the opportunity to earn scholarships and national recognition.
