CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Fairview Yellow Jackets traveled across the river to Montgomery Central High School for a District 11-3A matchup with the Indians on Friday. The Indians scored early and often, dismantling Fairview for a big district win, 72-55, keeping them undefeated in district play at 3-0.
From the jump ball, the Indians’ Noah Nicholson was on fire. He scored the Indians’ first eight points in under three minutes, leading to a 15-point first half that included three three-pointers. However, Fairview kept pace with the offensive production. Guard Jax McCoy led the Jackets with 12 points at the half, and Central had an 8-point lead at the half, 33-25.

“We had a bad performance Tuesday, so it was good to see us bounce back from a challenge,” said Indians head coach Sam Young. “We were very engaged in the scouting report, and from the opening tip, we were ready to roll. Nicholson got us going early, and it gave our other guys confidence. He’s elevating his game at the right time.”

The Indians started the second half on a 9-0 run, stringing together defensive stops with extra effort, and pulled away quickly, heading into the fourth quarter up 20. Nicholson scored 11 in the quarter, ending his night with 26, as he sat most of the fourth. His teammate, guard Jonathon Johnson, wouldn’t be outdone, however, scoring 20 points himself, including 11 in the second half to further put a bow on the win. Young emptied his bench, and the squad celebrated keeping its district record perfect.
This Indian team has a different feel from past years, as the record shows. The last time Central won three district games in a season was 2017, back when they played 16 district games in a year, as opposed to this squad, which will play eight.
For Young, the wins are special, but the goal remains the same. “Our guys came together as a team; it took all of our guys in our rotation for that win, especially defensively,” said Young. “We’ve had a lot of different leading scorers in games this year, and it shows you we have a lot of guys that can go. The wins are nice, it’s great to see support from the community, but we want a district championship.
