CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery Central softball played Creek Wood for the Class 3A regional championship on Wednesday, May 19.

The two sides were in for a defensive showdown throughout the matchup. However, Montgomery Central pulled away in the end. Maddy Curry scored the go ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to put her team ahead.

The Indians starting pitcher Payton Harris overpowered batters throughout the contest. Harris pitched for 7 innings, 9 strikeouts, 0 earned earns and only gave up 3 total hits.

“The game was a pitching duel, and we played good defense,” said MCHS head coach Chris Jackson. “We got some timely hits, including a sacrifice fly by Abby Khamphengphet in the top of the 6th. We scored the game winning run when a ball was hit to the creek wood second baseman. Their second basemen bobbled the ball and it was a close play at first. Curry rounded third and was sent home. We scored on a close play at the plate. It was a team effort and the girls battled all 7 innings. Our team has a ton of confidence right now, and I feel good about what we can do in the sectional game. I am proud of our team.”

Montgomery Central will take on Hardin County on Saturday, May 21 as they compete for a chance to play in the state tournament.
