CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Northeast Vikings traveled across the river to Montgomery Central High School for an in-county matchup with the Indians on Friday. The Vikings struck first, but a strong offensive showing from Central resulted in a run rule victory to close the week, 15-5.

Northwest’s bats started out hot, with an RBI double from both Lucas Parker and Christian Magsby to gain a quick two-run lead. The Indians responded in the bottom of the first, scoring five in the inning, capped off by a 2 RBI double from Brake Blackwell. Northwest’s defense couldn’t seem to find a rhythm, as an eight-error night put them even further behind.

“We did what we needed to do and took advantage of opportunities,” said Indians’ head coach Todd Dunn. “Coming off a big win last night, we stayed locked in, and used a lot of guys to get it done. We used 17 players today, and it’s good to see a lot of guys produce, because you never know who you’re gonna need late in the year.”

The Indians continued to pour it on with a six-run second inning to firmly take hold of this one. Dylan Fulton’s RBI triple in the third put a cherry on the big win, and the Indians are hot, winners of their last 7 games straight. Northwest is currently searching for answers defensively, but are hopeful to get back on the right track.

“We started off pretty hot, but then we turned around and didn’t do the basics,” said Vikings head coach Chris Benne. “Montgomery Central did a good job of putting the ball in play and making adjustments, and offensively, we have to be able to do that. We can’t be stubborn and say our way is gonna work if we do the same thing. We made one mistake, and it turned into a few.”

“We’ve been focused on being competitive and being good teammates,” said Dunn. “Our hitting and pitching will come and go, but we’ve gotten to a point where we will compete no matter what. That’s the reason we’re off to a good start, we haven’t done everything right, but just enough to win some ball games against good teams.”
