CLARKSVILLE, TN – Montgomery Central and Northwest High Schools both sent their boys varsity wrestling programs to the annual Bruise Brothers Brawl in Springfield on Saturday and four wrestlers brought home titles.
Northwest’s 157-pound Ethan Cunningham won his third straight title and Montgomery Central’s 144-pound Reese Levendusky became a back-to-back champ. Northwest had two other champs as Kevin Shaw won it at 190 and John Patri-Goodings won it at 215.
Northwest also placed 4th in the team race, while Montgomery Central took 6th. Each team also had two other medalists at the 13-team event, with Montgomery Central’s Jeremy Mills placing 3rd at 150 and Dustin Basham 4th at the same weight. The teammates hit in the 3rd place match, and it was Mills with the 5-3 victory.
Northwest also had two other medalists, with 175-pound Henry Williams placing 3rd at 175 and 285-pound Roldon Timothy reaching the finals to take 2nd.
Cunningham won a close semifinal match 5-3 over Matthew Anderson from Ravenwood to reach the finals, where he defeated Station Camp’s Lincoln Rich 7-1 to win his third straight title.
Levendusky went 4-0 at the event, defeating Ravenwood’s #5 seed Jack Garrett in the semis 6-2 before grinding his way to the top of the podium with a 4-2 decision over Springfield’s #2 seeded Donald Day Rogers.
Shaw earned his gold with a convincing 7-2 win over Springfield’s Anson Dickerson in the finals and #3 seeded Patri-Goodings upset #1 seed Landon Morris from Cheatham 6-3 in the finals to earn his 1st place medal.
