MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – Scoreboard operators were busy on Wednesday as the Montgomery Central Indians and Creekwood combined for 31 runs. Montgomery Central Indians eventually won the offensive battle 17-14 in seven innings.
Hitters on both sides were strong at the plate as the teams combined for 26 hits, including six extra base hits.
The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to 11 lead changes in the game.
The Montgomery Central Indians took the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. A hit by pitch scored Gage Sherlock and gave the Montgomery Central Indians the lead for good.
Bill Hamilton had two extra-base hits for the Montgomery Central Indians. He doubled in the second and seventh innings and singled in the fourth and seventh innings.
The Montgomery Central Indians easily handled Creekwood pitching as six hitters combined for 12 hits, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
Four relief pitchers didn’t loosen their grasp on the win as they finished off the game for the Montgomery Central Indians. Hamilton faced nine batters in relief, while TJ Sauers managed to record three outs to aid the victory.
The top of the first saw the Montgomery Central Indians take an early lead, 3-0. Clayton Walker got things going for the Montgomery Central Indians with a single. Bryce Devers singled, scoring Devin Prewitt and Logan Wallace. The Montgomery Central Indians then tacked on more runs when Dean scored on a walk by Peyton Delvendahl.
Creekwood survived the Montgomery Central Indians’ surge and put up three runs of its own in the first. Creekwood scored on an RBI single by Tyler Hines, a groundout by Kyle Klotz, and a sacrifice fly by Kyle Heggie.
The Montgomery Central Indians pushed two runs across in each of the second, fourth and fifth. In the second, the Montgomery Central Indians scored on an RBI double by Walker, plating Hamilton.
Creekwood answered the Montgomery Central Indians’ top inning with four runs of its own in the second. Creekwood scored on an RBI single by Hines, , an RBI single by Kyle Klotz, and an RBI double by Kyle Heggie.
After posting three runs in the sixth, Creekwood again scored three in the seventh. In the sixth, Creekwood scored on a wild pitch, scoring Kyle Klotz.
The Montgomery Central Indians went up for the duration of the game after the seventh inning. Additional runs came from a two-run double by Hamilton and two singles.
