CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery Central Indians hosted the Whites Creek Cobras for a homecoming region matchup on Friday. It was muddy and rainy, and neither offense scored. However, a 102-yard pick-six from Kanyon Conner was all the Indians needed, and for the first time in 742 days, it’s a victory for the Indians, winning 8-0 and snapping a 20-game losing streak.

Neither offense could get anything going in the first half, with penalties and fumbles being a major cause for it. Whites Creek had a drive going with less than a minute left in the first half, but Kanyon Conner picked off the Cobras shot to the end zone, taking it back 102 yards for the first score of the night.

Central head coach Wyatt Page thought his defense was tremendous in the shutout. “Coach Hedges did a great job with them this week,” said Page. “We came out here and executed.” He said Conner is a great player. “He’s somebody who has a special career when it’s all said and done. I can’t say enough good things about him”

After the two sides traded fumbles and punts in the second half, the Indians’ defense stepped up one more time with no time remaining to win their first game in two years, and on homecoming.

For the Indians, it’s a culmination of belief in their program and all of the hard work that has finally paid off.

“There ain’t a better feeling,” said Page. “These kids deserve it, they worked so hard for this. This senior group especially has bought in and changed the culture, and this is only the beginning.”
