CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery Central High School football team is entering a new era with first-year head coach Wyatt Page leading the way. The Indians are looking to establish a culture of physicality and hard work, while focusing on the details.
Last year. the Indians did not have an ideal season, posting a record of 0-10, but the record does not reflect their season. The Indians lost multiple games by one score, including one overtime loss.
As far as Page is concerned, last year is completely behind this year’s team.
“There’s not any talk about last year, it’s in the rear view,” Page told Clarksville Now. “There’s a lot of new faces here, and most of us are new to the program. We’re building a program that puts student athletes first.”
On the field, Page is preaching physicality to his squad. Senior running back Kanyon Conner will lead the running game with his strength and quick change of direction.
“We’re going to be a physical team with absolutely no quit,” Page said. “We have a great group of kids who have worked incredibly hard this offseason, and I’m blessed to be here. I’m really excited to see this team excel.”
Many may doubt the Indians this season because of past teams, however, MCHS is looking to shock the mid-state and re-establish their tradition of winning. How will they do it? By focusing on the details.
“We’re really focused on the details, the little things,” said Page. “We preach to them every day, putting your foot behind the line, doing right in the weight room, in the classroom … those little things add up to the big goals we want to accomplish.”
