Murfreesboro, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery Central Indians traveled to the Siegel Stars Soccer Complex for the inaugural TSSAA Flag Football Invitational. Wednesday was day one and pool play for seeding, determining the bracket for Thursday’s single elimination tournament, and the Indians went 2-1, losing to Pearl Cohn in game one, and defeating Blackman and Fulton in games two and three. The Indians performance earned them the one seed in Pool B.
In game one, the Indians fell to the Pearl Cohn Firebirds 13-6. The Firebirds used their speed on defensive to minimize the Indians’ offense, aside from a touchdown reception from Montgomery Central receiver ReeAnna Stockling.
In game two, the Indians and Blackman Blaze were in a battle, with Libby Dominiak scoring the lone touchdown of the first half to bring the score to 6-6. Central receiver Jocelyn Kolozsy caught a drag route in the endzone to extend the lead to start off the second half. Blackman responded with a drive down the field of their own, before two-way player Audrey Levendusky collected one of her two interceptions on the night and ran it back the length of the field for a touchdown. The Indians added one more touchdown before the end of the game and won 25-6.
“We were definitely fired up from losing game one,” Levendusky told Clarksville Now. “We cleaned up a few things that were messy from the first game and got right. I didn’t know if someone was on my tail when I was taking it back, I just didn’t want them to score.”
In game three, it all came together for the Indians, as everyone got in on the scoring against a tough Fulton Dragon squad. Fast scoring drives and turnovers, including two interceptions from Indians linebacker Katarina Vidovic, powered MCHS to a 39-0 lead as the teams went into the half. After the halftime break, the Dragons got on the board twice late when the Indians subbed out the starters, but the Indians still earned a 39-12 victory.
Now, the Indians will head into a single elimination bracket on Thursday, and face Jackson-Northside at 10 AM and continue their quest to a state title. Montgomery Central will have to win four straight games on Thursday to complete their ultimate goal.
“We had some adversity, but the girls bounced back and showed a lot of resilience,” said Indians head coach Bill Youngquist. “No matter what goes on from this point, we made it here, and these girls have a lot to be proud of. We’re going get some rest and see how far we can go.”
