CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –Northeast High girls’ soccer traveled across the river for a soccer match with the Indians at Montgomery Central High School on Thursday, Aug. 29. While both teams were even at one during the halftime break, the Indians scored two early second half goals to secure a 3-1 victory.

Early on, it was a physical defensive battle, with both teams finding opportunities to score, but unable to find the back of the net. Montgomery Central was the first to break through with a goal in the 31st minute, but the Eagles wasted no time to respond with a goal of their own five minutes later. Northeast High head coach Thomas Moseley was proud of the response to the score by his squad.

“They could’ve stayed down, but they worked hard and responded quickly,” Moseley said. “I wish we could’ve gotten a few more scores in, but it is what it is. I’m pretty excited about the way we played nonetheless.”

After making some halftime adjustments, the Indians came out of the half on fire. They were able to net two goals within 10 minutes of each other at the start of the second half to take a commanding lead and secure a 3-1 win. For the Indians, the victory marks their first home win of the season, and MCHS head coach Jessica Drudy offered her thoughts following her team’s performance.

“We’ve been working on passing and moving the ball well, and we did that very well tonight,” said Drudy. “I’m super proud of not only our offense, but our defensive performance. The girls have the confidence to win, and they showed that tonight.”
