CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery Central girls’ basketball team hosted the Cheatham County Cubs for a matchup at Montgomery Central High School on Tuesday, Dec. 3. While the Indians battled with the Cubs throughout the night, Cheatham County remained disruptive and caused too many turnovers for Central to overcome as the Cubs won 58-22.
Similarly to the boys’ basketball game between the two schools, Montgomery Central struggled to execute on the offensive side of the ball as they only put up seven points through the first 16 minutes of the game. However, after the half, the Indians more than doubled their scoring total in half the time. MCHS head coach Billy Youngquist said he had one message for his team at the half, “let it fly.”

“Cheatham County has a really good basketball team first and foremost,” Youngquist said. “I’m proud of the effort we played with, and I told them at the half we just have to be willing to shoot it. Those shots started to fall for us eventually.”
Despite the offensive upstart in the second half, the Cubs cruised to a 58-22 victory. For Montgomery Central and Youngquist, they’re mentality doesn’t revolve around wins or losses.
“We’re not focusing on the result of the game,” Youngquist told Clarksville Now. “We’re focusing on improvement. We’re going to improve and let the wins and losses take care of themselves.”
