CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery Central’s football game set for Friday, Oct. 16 at West Creek has been cancelled.
According to CMCSS Chief Communications Officer Anthony Johnson, the game cannot be rescheduled.
“Montgomery Central had to cancel their game against West Creek and all upcoming practices until further notice due to the number of players and staff who are quarantined,” said Johnson. “Currently, there are 11 total players and staff members on quarantine from the Montgomery County Health Department. To protect the privacy of our students and staff, we will not provide names. Because these are individual quarantines, the dates will differ for when a student or staff member can return.”
Clarksville Now reached out to Montgomery Central football coach Jeff Tomlinson, who declined to comment on the cancellation.
The Indians were already without several players during last week’s game against Springfield due to COVID-19 contact tracing protocols.
Montgomery Central’s Oct. 16 game was scheduled to air as Game of the Week on 104.1 ESPN Clarksville. In light of the games cancellation, ESPN will continue with its normally scheduled programming.
If they are able to return to the field by Oct. 23, Montgomery Central (3-3, 1-3 Region 5-4A) will still need to win their final two games of the season in order to have a chance at the postseason.
Kenwood football has since cancelled its non-region game against Rossview as well due to COVID-19 issues, leaving the city of Clarksville with no games on the docket for Friday night.
With CMCSS student athletes on fall break, the schedule was already limited to begin with. As of now, there has been no word on whether or not each team will be able to return to action on Friday, Oct. 23.
