CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery Central High School Indians traveled to Todd County for a matchup with the Mayfield Cardinals in the Battle of the Border Tournament on Friday. While the Indians would battle, Mayfield led wire to wire in a 65-36 win.

Mayfield started off the game in a press defense, which was giving Central lots of trouble. The Cardinals forced turnover after turnover and started the game with a 23-0 lead.

Montgomery Central head coach Sam Young wanted to see his team start faster.

“They came out more ready to play then we did,” said Young. “They executed a lot better than we did, and we just kind of got shaken early. We have to start better., we just couldn’t recover.”

The Indians did get it right and attempted to mount a comeback, but it was too little too late, and Mayfield cruised to a win. The Indians will square off with the Falcons from Fort Campbell in a loser’s bracket game at 10 a.m. Saturday.
