KINGSTON SPRINGS, TN – Montgomery Central kept it rolling in Kingston Springs over the weekend, taking 1st place at Harpeth Duals on Friday and taking 2nd as a team at the 26-team Harpeth Invitational on Saturday.
On Friday night at Harpeth High School, eight teams faced off in team duals competition. In the end, Montgomery Central faced familiar opponent Fairview in the finals, defeating the Yellow Jackets 45-32. In an exciting atmosphere, key wins were earned by 113 Wesley Sudderth, 120 Blake Mills, 126 Jack Levendusky, 138 Jackson Key, 150 Tamarion Johnson, 157 Wyatt Koffer, 190 Cayson Rasch, and 215 Eli Cline.
Returning state medalist Levendusky earned an important 7-2 decision over Fairview state qualifier Louis Ribble in the 126-pound bout. Sudderth, Key, Johnson, Koffer, Rasch, and Cline all earned pins in their bouts, securing the maximum 6 points in their weight classes to contribute toward the final score. Key, Johnson, and Rasch are all returning state qualifiers.
The Indians defeated Livingston Academy 65-8 and James Lawson 57-18 en route to the finals. With the 3-0 performance, Central boys moved their record to 7-0 on the season.
Saturday Individual Invitational
Central boys followed up their title performance Friday night with a 2nd place finish on Saturday among the 26 teams entered. Five wrestlers cracked the top 4 in 32-man brackets to earn medals and propel their team to the runner-up finish.
113-pound freshman Wesley Sudderth stayed undefeated on the season, taking 1st place with a dominant performance that included a technical fall in the finals, a mercy rule in wrestling where the match terminates once a superior wrestler is ahead by 15 points or more in the match.
At 126, Jack Levendusky took 3rd, going 4-1 on the day including a technical fall and a pin. At 144, junior Caden Figueroa also took 3rd with two pins. Senior star Tamarion Johnson took 2nd at 150, falling to a state medalist in the finals but not before earning a razor-thin 5-4 win over Franklin’s Campbell Crowell in the semis.
Senior Josh Hodges took 3rd at 175 pounds, going 4-1 a pin, 1 technical fall, and a major decision. Every Montgomery Central wrestler had at least two wins at the event, including 157-pound Wyatt Koffer who went 4-2 and senior 165-pounder Alex Babuscio who went 4-2. At 215, Eli Cline went 3-2.
Central boys have another full week of action this week, facing off against Nashville Christian and MLK on Tuesday, Kentucky program McCrackin at home on Thursday, and heading to Cheatham Duals next weekend.
