CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery Central baseball went up against Greenbrier High for the second time in a week on Wednesday.
The last time the two faced, Greenbrier dominated the contest in every phase. This time around it played out differently, but the result remained the same. Montgomery Central lost the regional championship game by a score of 1-7.
The common theme throughout the game was defensive miscues for the Indians. This played to Greenbrier’s advantage from the start. Montgomery Central made an error to open up the ballgame on defense. This mistake affected them early on. With two outs in the inning, the Bobcats scored two runs off a walk and a hit by pitch.
The game went quiet until the fourth inning of play. With a runner on first base and two outs in the inning, Landon Welborn managed to find a gap and hit a double for the Indians. This marked the first runners in scoring position for MCHS. The team failed to bring the runners in to score. During the following have inning, Greenbrier added two additional runs. This was due to an error by the defense once again. The inning concluded with the Indians down 0-4.
The Bobcats scored three more times in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. However, Montgomery Central ended the game on a high note. They put together four hits in the top of the seventh inning to score their first run of the game.

MCHS will feed off their momentum from Wednesday’s game as they head into sectional play against Jackson Southside on Friday, May 20. According to Montgomery Central head coach Todd Dunn, the last time the program reached the state tournament they defeated the Jackson Southside in a sectional matchup.
