CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kenwood High School Knights traveled across the river to Montgomery Central High School for both teams’ first live-action football scrimmage of the fall on Friday. The Indians and Knights traded scores, along with working in backups and junior varsity players, culminating in a night that helped both teams grow.
Defensively, Kenwood is physical up front, getting penetration for several tackles for loss. The Knights have a different look offensively this year, favoring the run game and leaning heavily on read options. Leading the way is senior-receiver-turned-quarterback Christian James, who made electric plays all night for Kenwood.

Knights head coach Jarhett Snead had nothing but praise for James’ selflessness for his team. “He’s a leader, we knew coming into the season we might have to switch positions, and he told us he’d do it without complaining. We have trust in him, and his teammates do too.
“Defensively, the weight room is starting to show up on the field. One of the only good things about the heat advisory is that we’ve been able to work out more. These guys are bought in, and you’re starting to see the product. Overall, we just need to fix the little mistakes,” Snead said.

For the Indians, they have a tough core of a front seven defensively, led by linebacker Cayson Rasch, who was in the backfield more often than not, making tackles. Offensively, the Indians had struggles at times, but a solid power run game was able to slowly move the ball down the field. Running back Darius Howard did most of the damage on the ground, including a touchdown on a buck sweep.
Indians head coach Wyatt Page is excited about where his team is, but knows it’s still a process building to week one.
“We got a lot of good work in, but we need to fix the little things,” said Page. “Kenwood is a really good team, and they’re a good team to see in a scrimmage. We had some operational things we needed to fix, but we were physical up front and that helped. Every single day is a building process for us. It’s a scrimmage, no one wins or loses, but today is a win for our program cause we found the things we need to work on and fix moving forward. Our standard doesn’t change.”
