CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The new Gateway Woman’s Club of Clarksville (GFWC) is working on its first community service project: bringing the SHOWER UP mobile shower truck to space adjacent to the downtown Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen on Tuesday, June 26 from 6-8 pm.
This event will provide free hot showers, numerous hygiene supplies, clothing, backpacks, and many other frequently requested items to the area homeless population.
The club will host regular volunteer meetings throughout the month of June. In addition to volunteers before and during the event, the club is also asking local businesses, churches, and others to assist by collecting donations, transporting donations to the First Presbyterian Church, and helping sort and package donations. In addition, the club is hoping several barbers and beauticians will donate their time to provide haircuts for the participants.
Requested donations include: Wash Cloths (New or gently used)/Towels (New or gently used), Feminine Products, Band Aids/Neosporin wipes, Tooth Paste (Trial Size)/Tooth Brushes, Shampoo (Trial Sizes), Soap or shower gel (Trial Sizes), Gallon Zip Lock Bags (To put the items in), Men’s Socks (new or gently used), Women’s Socks (new or gently used), Men’s underwear, Women’s underwear, Deodorant for men and women (Trial Size), Children’s Books, Men’s, Women’s and children shoes, Insect repellent (trial sizes or wipes), Sunscreen (Trial Sizes or wipes), Baby wipes (Trial Sizes), Backpacks, women’s summer clothes, and men’s summer clothes.
