According to Ed Baggett, director of the Montgomery County EMA, the cause of the fire was a lightning strike. Baggett said the fire had multiple “hot spots” that needed to be put out, coming from the crawl space, below the floors, and even in the walls.

The family was able to make it out with no injury. Two dogs were able to be saved, one being an outside dog, and the other dog had to be given oxygen after suffering from smoke inhalation. Two other family pets, one dog and a cat, died in the fire.

Baggett says the first responders worked quickly to put out the fire, and besides some fire damage to the floors and walls, the structure is still standing.
