CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville native Nate “The Train” Landwehr was added to the UFC’s roster in August after relinquishing the M-1 Challenge Featherweight title.
According to MMAjunkie.com, Landwehr’s signing was made possible by an agreement reached between M-1 and the UFC, which allows M-1 champions to get out of their contracts after their first title defense.
The 31-year-old fighter is now set to make his official UFC debut on Saturday, January 25 against fellow newcomer Herbert Burns in a 155-pound matchup.
Brazil’s Burns earned a UFC contract for his performances on Dana White’s Contender Series 23 after winning three consecutive fights.
Landwehr made a name for himself in September of 2017 when he knocked out Mikhail Korobkov in his M-1 debut.
Since capturing the M-1 featherweight title in July of 2018, Landwehr has defended his belt twice, simultaneously catching the attention of UFC President Dana White. He is currently riding a seven-fight win streak.
“The Train” fights out of Clarksville, Tennessee and trains at SSF Submission Academy.
Burns, the brother of current UFC welterweight contender Gilbert Burns, spent nearly his first four years professionally with ONE Championship, recording a 5-2 record.
Nate “The Train” Landwehr (13-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will take on Herbert Burns (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) Saturday, January 25.
At this time, no other fights have been announced for the event as well as location or a name for the card.
