CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The MLK Day of Action was hosted at Austin Peay State University on Saturday at the Morgan University Center, bringing people together for a free, public event focused on civic engagement and community involvement.

The event encouraged attendees to become more active and informed within the community. “Today we’re hosting an MLK Day of Action, because we wanted to go beyond just doing a community service event and really think about doing a service to the community,” explained Tiffini Perkins, founder of Black Clarksville.

Perkins said that Clarksville’s growth makes community involvement even more important. “This is an election year, so we want to make sure that people leave this event not just feeling good, but really empowered to go forth and do the work they feel needs to be done in the community,” she said.

The event included speakers, presentations, and discussions. Perkins said organizers hope to make MLK Day of Action an annual event. “I think the best thing we can do is keep on empowering people to just learn how to get involved and learn how to take action in their community, whether there’s something bad happening or not.”
