CLARKSVILLE, TN – Miss Austin Peay Volunteer 2024 Kara Short singing her rendition of Barbara Streisand’s “A Piece of Sky,” won a preliminary talent award on Thursday during the second night of preliminary competitions at the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson, Tennessee.

Kara is a Clarksville native and graduated from Austin Peay State University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychological Science and Counseling. She is an alumnus of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, holding numerous executive positions. Kara is currently enrolled at APSU completing her Master of Science in Leadership with a concentration in Community Leadership.

You most likely have seen Kara this year in local parades and witnessed Kara’s amazing singing voice at many of APSU’s athletic events singing the National Anthem. She is especially excited about her Volunteer Pageant platform that she has shared across several states and even internationally. Kara is the Founder and President of the 501C3/non-profit Brave Me Brave You, an early preventative initiative designed to educate youth on the skills required to be brave in situations that can cause harm through physical or emotional trauma. She is eager to utilize her experience in the Miss Volunteer America Pageant system to further the growth of Brave Me Brave You.
