CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network (TSPN) is excited to announce its first-ever regional panel event, “Mind Matters: Real Talk About Mental Health,” hosted in the Mid-Cumberland region serving Cheatham, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Robertson, Stewart, Sumner, and Trousdale counties.
The panel will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Austin Peay State University’s Morgan University Center, Room 307, 601 College St. The event is free and open to students and the public.
Panel speakers include Cindy Johnson, a suicide loss survivor; Dr. Valerie Leake, professor of Counseling Psychology at Austin Peay State University; and Dr. Sarah L. Mendoza, assistant professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences and Counseling at Austin Peay State University.
“We are excited about our first-ever regional panel event and the opportunity to bring together mental health experts, suicide loss survivors, and community members to have real conversations about mental health,” said Darrell Bouldin, Mid-Cumberland Regional Director at TSPN. “Over 1,200 people died by suicide in Tennessee in 2023, and our nine-county Mid-Cumberland region represents a significant portion of our state’s population. Breaking down stigma and fostering open dialogue are crucial protective factors against suicide risk. This panel is our way of creating a safe space for authentic conversations that can save lives and support those who are struggling.”
