CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A family’s mortgage is being paid off this Memorial Day after a husband and father died of cancer attributed to his military service.

Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael Harris died July 7, 2022, leaving behind his wife Mandi and three daughters.

CW4 Harris served with the Army for 25 years. During his extensive career, Harris served as a combat engineer and Apache pilot, and he was one of the few pilots trusted to participate in Special Ops flights under the cover of darkness.

The Tunnels to Towers Foundation reached out to the Harris family to pay off their Clarksville home mortgage.

“I was in shock and disbelief. I prayed and thanked God for this blessing at such a horrible time in our lives. I imagined how Mike would react knowing this and just started uncontrollably crying. The domino effect of this blessing will span generations,” said Mandi Harris.

“Receiving the mortgage payoff in honor of  Memorial Day is symbolic,” she said. “Mike served 25 years, 11 months and 1 day in Army. He loved his country and all it stands for.”

The Tunnels to Towers Foundation was born from the 9/11 tragedy and its mission to “do good” is providing mortgage-free homes to fallen first responder families with young children and by building smart homes for injured veterans and first responders.
