CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Due to icy conditions and several games being rescheduled, the boys’ and girls’ middle school basketball district championships have been canceled. However, the TSSAA and regional administrators have found a way forward.
The format originally allowed only the district champion to move on to the sectional tournament, but administrators found a way to allow each team’s season to continue into the sectionals.
“We have not been able to hold the championship games originally scheduled for Jan. 26 because of the inclement weather,” said CMCSS District Programs and Activities Coordinator John Miller. “We were able to move the region semifinals from Monday, Feb. 2, to Wednesday, Feb. 4, so we could tentatively reschedule our championship games.
“Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather and cold temperatures, conditions on our campuses have not improved enough for CMCSS schools and offices to open tomorrow (Monday), and therefore, we cannot play the championship games. We have to move forward now because of TSSAA deadlines on region and sectional games. Most importantly, the two girls’ teams and two boys’ teams both qualify for region.”
The Richview girls’ and boys’ teams, along with the Kirkwood girls’ and West Creek boys’ teams, are now in a win-or-go-home sectional tournament, beginning Wednesday. Each team will have to win three games this week to qualify for the state tournament.
