CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – With the conclusion of the 2023 baseball season, it’s time to honor players representing Montgomery County schools with the annual Clarksville Now All-Area Baseball Team and Player of the Year.
There’s a wide variety of talented individuals that make up each high school team, but these players separated themselves from the rest. All statistics were calculated using the Game Changer app. A number of coaches verified the data.

Clarksville Now 2022 All-Area Baseball Team
Catcher: Korbin Reynolds, Clarksville High – batted .476, on-base percentage of .556, slugging percentage of .579, OPS of 1.136, 60 total hits, 12 extra base hits, 39 RBI’s and 19 walks earned.
Infield: Scotty Dean, Rossview High – batted .383, on-base percentage of .503, slugging percentage of .809, 44 totals hits, 26 extra base hits, including 10 home runs, 48 RBI’s, 30 runs scored, 23 walks earned and 8 stolen bases.
Infield: Harrison Cassle, Clarksville Academy – batted .428, on-base percentage of .466, slugging percentage of .564, OPS of 1.029, 46 total hits, 12 extra base hits, 29 RBI’s, 24 runs scored, 9 walked earned and 14 bases stolen.
Infield: Brady Cooper, Rossview High – batted .447, on-base percentage of .594, slugging percentage of .658, 34 total hits, 12 extra bases hits, 13 RBI’s, 26 runs scored and 35 walks earned.
Infield: Cole Smith, Clarksville Academy – batted .399, on-base percentage of .444, slugging percentage of .650, OPS of 1.094, 47 total hits, 19 extra base hits, 27 RBI’s, 36 runs scored, 10 walks earned and 17 stolen bases.
Outfield: Cooper Wallace, Clarksville Academy – batted .465, on-base percentage of .562, slugging percentage of .619, OPS of 1.182, 51 total hits, 15 extra base hits, 31 RBI’s, 44 runs scored, 18 walks earned and 34 stolen bases.
Outfield: Cade Steiner, Northwest High – batted .420, on-base percentage of .554, slugging percentage of .500, OPS of 1.054, 21 total hits, 14 runs batted in, 25 runs scored and 14 walks earned. He also threw a no-hitter during week one of the regular season.
Outfield: Jordan Johns, Montgomery Central – batted .396, OPS of 1.035, 38 total hits, 12 extra base hits, 15 RBI’s, 24 runs scored and 17 stolen bases.
Utility player: Brodie Prairie, Rossview High – batted .333, on-base percentage of .449, slugging percentage of .508, 40 total hits, 11 extra base hits, 29 runs batted in, 39 runs scored, 15 walks earned and 11 stolen bases.
Utility player: Gavin Dufault, Clarksville High – batted .327, on-base percentage of .525, slugging percentage of .355, OPS of .880, 36 total hits, 15 runs batted in, 44 runs scored, 39 walks earned and 18 stolen bases.
Defensive players
Two-way player: DJ Merriweather, Clarksville Academy – batted .307, on-base percentage of .457, slugging percentage of .564, OPS of 1.022, 31 hits, 16 extra base hits, 31 RBI’s, 36 runs scored, 24 walks earned and 18 stolen bases. In addition, Merriweather had 28.1 innings pitched, 3 wins, 52 strikeouts, an ERA of 2.47 and a WHIP of 1.55.
Two-way player: Chris Collins, Northeast High – batted .372, on-base percentage of .487, slugging percentage of .457, OPS of .945, 35 total hits, 7 extra base hits, 20 runs batted in, 24 runs scored, 17 walks and 13 stolen bases. In addition, Collins had 43.2 innings pitched, 27 strikeouts, 15 walks allowed, an ERA of 2.57 and a WHIP of 1.37.
Two-way player: Braden Canaan, West Creek High – batted .357, on-base percentage of .423, slugging percentage of .457, OPS of .880, 25 total hits, 19 runs batted in, 14 runs scored, 6 walks earned and 7 stolen bases. In addition, Canaan had 46.2 innings pitched, 3 wins, 40 strikeouts, an ERA of 4.62 and a WHIP of 1.67.
Pitcher: Christian Henderson, Clarksville High – Threw for 69.2 innings pitched, 9 wins, 6 earned runs allowed, 50 strikeouts, 9 walks allowed, an ERA of 0.60 and a WHIP of 0.83.
Pitcher: Collin Rittenberry, Clarksville Academy – Threw for 45.2 innings pitched, 8 wins, 7 earned runs allowed, 67 strikeouts, 11 walks allowed, an ERA of 1.07 and a WHIP of .876.
Pitcher: Chip Harris, Clarksville High – Threw for 49.2 innings pitched, 6 wins, 11 earned runs allowed, 51 strikeouts, 30 walks allowed, an ERA of 1.55 and a WHIP of 1.21.
Pitcher: Hezekiah Scott, Rossview High – Threw for 61.1 innings pitched, 6 wins, 17 earned runs allowed, 65 strikeouts, 21 walks allowed, an ERA of 1.94 and a WHIP of 1.09.
Pitcher: Cannon Rice, Rossview High – Threw for 47.1 innings pitched, 8 wins, 17 earned runs allowed, 63 strikeouts, 23 walks allowed, an ERA of 2.51 and a WHIP of 1.03.
Pitcher: Porter Murff, Clarksville High – Threw for 30 innings pitched, 2 wins, 7 earned runs allowed, 24 strikeouts, 23 walks allowed, an ERA of 1.63 and a WHIP of 1.37.
Clarksville Now Player and Pitcher of the Year
Clarksville High pitcher Christian Henderson has been selected as this year’s Clarksville Now Player and Pitcher of the Year.
Henderson was one of the best high school pitchers throughout all of Tennessee during the 2022-23 season, and his numbers speak for themselves.
In total, the junior pitcher threw for 69.2 innings pitched, which included throwing five complete game shutouts. When he was on the mound, Henderson continuously minimized runs and baserunners.
He only allowed 6 earned runs, 49 hits and 9 walks throughout the entire 2023 season. These stats led to his ERA being 0.60 and his WHIP being 0.83.
Clarksville Now Slugger of the Year
Rossview High catcher Scotty Dean has been selected as this year’s Clarksville Now Slugger of the Year.
Dean earned the honor by showcasing his power throughout the 2022-23 season, and he did it on a consistent basis. On the season, the senior led the county in categories such as extra base hits, home runs and RBI’s.
Dean hit 26 extra base hits, 10 home runs and 48 RBIs for reference. In addition to the stats previously listed, Dean also had a batting average of .383, on-base percentage of .503 and slugging percentage of .809.
