CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – As many welcomed the inception of the new decade on Wednesday, Jan. 1, the Maddex family celebrated their newest blessing.

Staff Sgt. Justin Maddex and his wife Anna Claire welcomed their son, Barron Alan, at 3:14 a.m., becoming Blanchfield Army Community Hospital’s New Year’s Baby.

Baby Barron Alan weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 inches long. His name, Barron Alan, was chosen for a few special reasons.

“Originally we were looking for a B names, we knew he’d be Alan Maddex because my dad is Alan Maddex,” Justin Maddex said. “We wanted a BAM for his initials, and We call him Little Bear.”

Anna Claire said becoming a mom and having the first baby of the decade was an early surprise.

“We tried for so long and when we found out we were pregnant I was over the moon,” Anna Claire said. “This is so great and perfect! God had a plan for us. Barron was meant to be for us. The New Year’s thing blew my mind. He was supposed to come on the 13th, but due to several unexpected circumstances he had to be born early.”

The hospital staff, family and friends showed a lot of love and support to honor Baby Barron’s birth date.

“We didn’t know we’d had the first baby at the hospital, but so many people knew about it right away,” he said. “When I went to get to breakfast, people knew I was the New Year’s baby’s dad.”

Anna Claire said Baby Barron was being shared all over Facebook, and it was such a great surprise to accompany the unbound excitement they feel for their bundle of joy.

Staff Sgt. Maddex is assigned to 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry “Iron Rakkasans,” 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division – Air Assault.
