CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – Four years ago, Terry Boykin had a vision of acknowledging local middle school basketball players for the hard work they put in, on and off the court. This Saturday at Clarksville Academy’s Proctor Court will be the third time his vision will become reality. A total of 24 boys and 24 girls will come together for the 2017 Playmaker Basketball Middle School basketball game.

“The purpose of the game is to reward young 8th grade kids that have gotten it done not only on the basketball floor, but also in the classroom. My mentor told me that its hard to motivate a kid to go to the next level when they haven’t been exposed to it.” said Boykin.

On Sunday, the selected players came together for practice and media day. Each player had a chance to answer questions from ESPN Clarksville’s Scott Chase in a press conference type setting.

“The All Star Game Media Day we are able to introduce the recruiting process to them and make them understand the NCAA guidelines and things they need to do academically to be a next level player.” said Boykin. “We also introduced them to the interview process by putting them in a press conference setting and letting them talk to media. Being a next level player is bigger than basketball. Game Day is just time to have fun and showcase their talent and enjoy being an All Star player.” said Boykin.

Clarksville Academy girls basketball coach Carrie Daniels spoke to the players and parents on several subjects including grades, character, and social media awareness.

The 2017 Playmaker Basketball Middle School All Star basketball game will take place this Saturday March 4th at Clarksville Academy. The girls game will tip off at 12pm, followed by the boys game at 1:30. For more info, visit www.playmakerbasketball.net
