CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Explorers Post 600 with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office have completed a record winning weekend at the annual Winterfest Competition held in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

The event is held every year in February. Over 3,000 youths and young adults participated in Winterfest. Explorers from 75 southeastern law enforcement agencies competed in a scenario based competition.

Contestants are given real-life situations officers face every day and must assess, develop, and implement a course of action considering the officer’s safety and the environmental conditions involved.

The 13 Explorers from Montgomery County brought home an unprecedented four awards in this year’s competition. They placed 1st in Robbery in Progress, 2nd in Tactical Fitness, 3rd in Suspicious Death, and 3rd in the Written Exam category.

MCSO Explorer Post 600 was the only agency to bring home four winning plaques.

The Explorers Program is open to all young men and women 14 to 20 years old with an interest in law enforcement. The program helps prepare individuals for a future in law enforcement or criminal justice. For more information on the program or to join contact Jeff Campagna at 931-551-0573.
