MILWAUKEE, WIS. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Alec Mills pitched a historic no-hitter against the Brewers in Miller Park on Sunday, the 16th in Cubs history. Right-hander Mills struck out 5 and walked three, spurring the team to a 12-0 win.
The former Montgomery Central pitcher joined the Cubs July 2019 and has made the most of his time on the mound. Former Cubs manager Joe Maddon spoke highly of Mills on NBC Chicago, saying that he had, “a lot of confidence in him.”

“He’s definitely a big-league caliber pitcher. I don’t think he’s a 4-A guy; I think he’s more than that,” said Maddon.
Mills showed off that big-league caliber Sunday in his showdown with the Brewers, pitching the teams first No-No since Jake Arrieta in 2016.
“At a young age, it was just ‘I wanted to pitch in the big leagues,'” Mills said in a comment to ESPN. “I don’t think you ever think about no-hitters or things like that. It’s something I never would have imagined in my life.”
Correction: A previous version of this story referenced Joe Maddon as Cubs manager, though he is no longer in that position. The current manager for the Cubs is David Ross.
