CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Mid-Cumberland Meals-On-Wheels is busy everyday serving senior citizens healthy food and on Tuesday, March 17, Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett volunteered to deliver to a senior in need.
The Mayormet with Meals-On-Wheels organizers at South Central Village in Clarksville and delivered lunch to Raymond Hicks as part of the organization’s annual March for Meals.
Durrett talked about volunteering his time to support Meals-On-Wheels. “It’s great. I think it’s something we all ought to do. I’m going to volunteer some more, I want to be a part of this. This is awesome,” Durrett said.
Hicks said he really enjoyed the meals that are delivered to him and if it wasn’t for Meals-On-Wheels he wasn’t sure he would make it. Hicks added that since his wife died he lives by himself and laughed when he said he doesn’t know how to cook.
Jill Groves, Site Coordinator for Meals-On-Wheels in Clarksville-Montgomery County said the organization serves meals to seniors over the age of 60 who are home bound and around 140 meals are served each day in the county solely by volunteers.
