CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Mastercuts has seen its last busy day today at Governors Square Mall. Several regular customers were surprised today to learn that the store would be closing its doors for good at the close of the business day, as were the employees.
“We found out last night at dinnertime that they were closing us down,” said Mary Berrios, a stylist at Mastercuts since 1994. “I’ve seen a lot of turnaround, but I have never seen a turnaround like this. Happy New Year to us”
Mastercuts, which is owned by the California-based Beautiful Group, has been part of Governors Square Mall for many years; however, last night at 6 p.m, the employees received a notice through the store’s POS system that they would be going out of business at 6 p.m. the next day.
This is not the first Beautiful Group store to close at the mall. The company also owned Regis Salon, which was located at the far end of the mall.
“Regis got a five day notice. We got a phone call on Tuesday. We were to be out of the Salon by Sunday and merge with Mastercuts,” Said Hailey Mock, a manager at Mastercuts and formerly a manager at Regis. “We had to move all the product down here. There was no other notice or warning before then.”
Several regular customers visited the store to wish the staff well and offer their support.
“I love the service, I like the community, and everybody feels like a family. I came yesterday for service, but I came up today to wish everyone a bright future, just to be here and say goodbye to them,” said Michelle Nichols, a customer of 12 years. “I don’t personally know the company, but I think it was very rude of them to not at least have a meeting with their employees. They could have handled things a little bit better.”
The staff similarly wanted to wish their customers well and thank them for their years of patronage.
“I hope that they reach out to us, find us on social media and find us wherever they can and keep in contact. I know we are looking to have them follow us where we’re going,” said Mock.
“I would just like to say thank you from all of us from the bottom of our hearts, for everything that you have done for all of, being our extended family,” said Berrios. “We love you, god bless, Happy New Year and we hope to see you soon.”
