Ed Baggett, director of the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, said that the house had been “totaled.” Though the structure of the house still stands, the roof is mostly gone and the house is considered not livable.
The home belonged to a young couple, and one of the homeowners was overseas with the military, Baggett said. Only one person was home at the time: a young woman with two dogs and two cats. Both of the dogs escaped with her, but Baggett said the cats have not been located yet.
It is still unknown what caused the fire, and the investigation is ongoing.
Correction: It is not known whether the two cats survived.
