Mary Josephine “Jo” Sanford, of Clarksville, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022, at Fieldstone Place.
Mary Jo was born January 6, 1925, in Montgomery County, TN, to the late Ed Harris and Rosa Batson Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William H. Sanford; one son, Ronald Sanford; and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Sanford is survived by daughter, Rosanne (Edwin) Alexander; one son, Phil (Angela) Sanford; one brother, Harold Harris; six grandchildren, Philip, Lila, Caroline, Mary Sanford, Elizabeth, and Beckett; and two great grandchildren, Liam and Addison.
Mary Jo was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church for 63 years. She obtained her bachelors degree from Austin Peay State University and her masters degree from Peabody College. Mrs. Sanford was a teacher and elementary supervisor with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, February 11, at 1:00 PM, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Calvert-Rosenberger officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 10, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, and Friday, February 11, from 12:00 PM until the hour of service, at the church.
Pallbearers will be Philip Sanford, Beckett Hay, George Johnson, Will Alexander, Mitch Alexander, and Charlie Malone. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 1324 Gholson Road, Clarksville, TN 37043.
